I actually called Becton Dickinson (BD) makers of both glass and digital thermometers to ask. With digital thermometers there is NO difference in the actual thermometer - they are both just as accurate and sensitive. The only difference between digital basal and digital fever is the packaging and literature you get inside (and, surprise, surprise, they charge you more for the basal one). With glass thermometers there IS a difference (you can actually see it) - there is a greater space between degrees of temperature on the basal one, so you will get a more accurate reading with a glass basal vs. a glass fever. However, glass vs. digital does not seem to matter. I'm using the BD regular digital fever thermometer that beeps when it's finished reading and find that it does the trick well (and keeps me awake at 6:45 am).
Bottom line - use any digital thermometer. If you want to use a glass one, make sure it's a basal one.
Hope that helps and good luck!
